Kandinsky and Mondrian come to Panama class

In Panama class we have been looking at colours in our art topic and we have looked at the work of some famous artists who create art using strong colours.

First of all, we thought about where we can see colours in nature. We thought about the colourful birds and animals from Panama that we learnt about in Term 1. We also thought about peacocks, flowers and rainbows, and made a rainbow collage for our classroom.

Next we looked at the work of the Dutch artist Piet Mondrian, who uses blocks of colour edged in black to create bright bold paintings.

We used crayons to create our own art in his style and edged the coloured blocks with black pen.

Finally looking at the work of Wassily Kandinsky who came from Russia. Kandinsky created lots of abstract art but we mainly looked at one of his famous pictures which has colourful, concentric circles inside squares.

Panama class used over layering of different colours to create our own work in the style of Kandinsky but it took a long time because we had to give our painting time to dry after each new layer of colour.
