Catering Update

It has been another busy and brilliant year for all the students studying Catering.

Following the 6th form Catering students  successful results  last summer, for  the first time we  sent a group  of students to East Kent College to access a part time catering course. This has proved immensely successful  and the students thrived in this new environment  improving their  skills.  Several of these  students are now moving on to a full time course which I am sure that it will eventually lead to employment. We are again going to send another group in the new term to follow in their footsteps – a great  career pathway.

In Key Stage 4 pupils have been working very hard towards their accredited courses with GCSE results for some in August. Well done everyone.

Over my years at Highview and now at the Beacon,  it has been a pleasure to watch their progress and enjoyment of the subject  grow.  I have always encountered enthusiasm and a positive attitude from everyone – eating the results always helps!  I feel I have developed the subject as far as I can and  I would like to take this opportunity to say how wonderful it has been to teach all the pupils this important life skill;  with the added potential  of entering a useful and much needed profession.  I will miss their engagement,  humour and  interesting ideas on mixing ingredients together.

As  I lay down my  ‘wooden spoon’  I know that the subject is in safe hands and will continue to flourish.

I wish everyone at The Beacon a great summer and all the best for next year.
